Friday was a very emotional day in Killeshin as we gathered to celebrate Mr Denieffe’s last day as principal. After 31 years at the helm he has definitely earned a happy and healthy retirement.
As part of the celebrations the staff and pupils formed a guard of honour to cheer him on a final walk around the school.
Afterwards, Mr Ball and the Green Schools Committee joined Mr Denieffe outside to plant a cherry blossom tree.
The whole school, led my Ms Kelly performed a song specially written for the occasion, “School on the Hill” to the tune of ‘The Rose of Mooncoin’. A very fitting tribute for a Kilkenny man!
Past pupils Mrs Byrne and Ms Dowling spoke warmly about Mr Denieffe’s time in Scoil Chomhgháin Naofa. Ms Fitzpatrick presented him with a gift from staff and pupils. A special mention also to Mrs McGuill who coordinated the big send off and John Bradley who photographed the day.
Mr Denieffe oversaw a lot of change during his tenure, the biggest of which was the move to our new school building in 2012. The Trojan effort he put into securing the new school was reflected in the naming of our school hall in his honour. ‘Halla Denieffe’ will forever be a reminder of Mr Denieffe’s dedication to our school.
While we are sad to see him go we wish him nothing but the best in his retirement.
