Message from National Parents Council

Dear Parents,

As you are no doubt aware the primary school curriculum is being redeveloped.

As part of the redevelopment, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) is consulting on the Draft Primary Curriculum Specifications (what and how children will be taught) in:

  • Arts Education (Art, Music & Drama)

  • Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

  • Social and Environmental Education (Geography & History)

  • Science, Technology and Engineering Education

  • Wellbeing (Physical Education – PE ; and Social, Personal and Health Education – SPHE)

National Parents Council (NPC) would like to get your feedback on the changes happening to the curriculum. We would like to invite you to attend a parents’ focus group to share your perspectives and views on the planned changes.

You have two options available for the Focus Group. It is only possible to choose one option:

Option 1: Online focus group on 7th May 2024 from 7 – 8 pm

To sign up for the online focus group, please follow this link - https://forms.office.com/e/SwxGQY6zMY

Option 2: In-person focus group on 11th May 2024 at 10am – 1pm, in the Ashling Hotel, Parkgate Street, Dublin (near Heuston Station and on the LUAS redline). Followed by a light lunch.

To sign up for the in-person focus group, please follow this link -https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NPC_consultation_session_Primary_curriculum_changes

Following the consultation on the 11th May NPC will make a submission to the NCCA where we will share your views.

We realise that many of you will be parents of children in post primary school, but you may wish to share your views having experience of the existing primary curriculum.

Kind regards,

Carmel O’Shea
