Mr Denieffe will be retiring as principal of Scoil Chomhgháin Naofa at the Easter Holidays. Our school community would like to thank Mr Denieffe for all his hard work and dedication to the school over the past 31 years. Mr Denieffe taught in Donard N.S, Co. Wicklow after he graduated from St Patrick’s College and subsequently taught in Leighlinbridge N.S, Co. Carlow before he moved to Killeshin N.S.
Mr Denieffe was appointed as principal to the school in 1992. At the time Killeshin N.S had 139 pupils and five teachers (Mrs McGuill, Mrs Bolton, Mr Redmond and Mrs Coyle). Gradually the school pupil numbers began to increase and prefabs and the Community Hall were necessary to accommodate classes in addition to the school building. An extension was applied for in 1999 but as the school continued to grow that request changed from an extension to a new school building. Getting approval for this was a long and slow process but eventually in 2012 the new school building was constructed on a green field site with 16 classrooms, offices, school hall, library and ancillary rooms. The school now has 23 teachers and just under 400 pupils.
We know Mr Denieffe is very proud of the school and its pupils and their many achievements in different areas, academic, music, choirs, quizzes, art and sporting over the years and also he loves to hear of the school’s past pupils who have gone on to achieve so much in different areas.
While he is a Kilkenny man and very involved in Kilkenny GAA he has always promoted and supported the development of sport in Killeshin. He is particularly proud of the school’s past pupils who have gone on to wear the Laois and Carlow jerseys.
On behalf of the school community, staff, parents and especially pupils, we would like to thank Mr Denieffe for his dedication and contribution to our school.
There will be a function on the evening of Thursday 1st June to mark Mr Denieffe’s retirement. We will provide more details closer to the time. All members of the community, especially pupils, parents and past pupils are invited to attend.
We wish Mr Denieffe a very happy retirement.
Go raibh míle maith agat agus go n-éirí leat as seo amach!
