In March, Ms Fleming's 4th Class wrote letters to a number of local TD's in both Carlow and Laois. Before the Easter holidays they received word back from Laois & Offaly TD, Sean Fleming. Pupils, Noah, Zach, James and Kayla had written to him about the prospect of installing solar panels in primary schools all over Ireland to save money on energy costs. They highlighted the other important ways in which the money could be spent including new ICT equipment, library books, playground and sports equipment and Aistear resources.
Today our Green Schools Committee and Ms Fleming's 4th Class were delighted to welcome Sean and Special Advisor, Eoin Delaney who is a past pupil of Killeshin NS. Sean spoke with the boys and girls about his role as a TD, his experience of the Green Schools initiative, Tidy Towns and proposals to install solar panels in all schools.
This was an excellent opportunity for the students to see the impact writing a letter can have on ideas they feel strongly about.
